Hi All!

The framework for handling performance sets and performances in BKSessionManager is now almost finished and it's time to discover which bytes each setting on a BK affects. The Section buttons are already done.

You can see a picture of the latest progress here; all the buttons are fully working:

I understand that you have had good cooperation from Roland about this software this time?

Have you considered licensing it to them for conversion to an iPad app?

Hi Diki

No, Roland have not offered any assistance to me, nor to Rob as far as I know. So it will continue to be a PC application entirely under my control. However, it may be possible later to compile this application for other platforms, and the code, unlike its predecessor, does not use any processor-specific instructions.

Possibly, perhaps show them the old Session Manager, point out the great capabilities it brought to the G/E series that had no way to achieve without the Session Manager, then perhaps talk about offering them the new one to convert to an iPad app (with a modest licensing fee!) after you have it running well? If they seem interested, it might get you access to the codes that were hard to track down for the old one...

I understand that getting the SDK and rights to produce an iPad app can be expensive, perhaps it might be better to let Roland (who already have those, and experienced iPad programmers) do the conversion?

DIKI,

IPad SDK and all programming stuff is FREE from Apple believe it or not.

The apps do have to pass Apples inspection to insure it will work without causing problems on Ipads. but
you can the either give it away free or charge a fee and Apple will handle all that for you too.

Hello Richard,

First I would like to congratulate you for this initiative.

I am a new owner of a BK7m and I have some SW skills. I am available to support you as much as possible.

Regards,

Well folks, I WILL get back on this project before too long. It's been the best summer here in England for 10 years and I haven't spent much time indoors programming on the PC despite the fact that I retired in June! Now it's fungus foraying time and I'm busy again  Tongue

Hang in there!

Now that the BK-9 Editor iPad app is out, perhaps it is time to take a close look at it and maybe figure out how to improve it?

Some form of copy/paste of Parts from one Performance to another might be neat, and I'm still a big fan of your idea of being able to globally replace one sound with it's edited and EQ'd version on your entire List collection.

Have you had an opportunity to think about the ROMbin file, also? Personally, being able to tweak the Factory defaults would be a great boon, saving a whole heap of duplicate work simply correcting the odd factory gaff (hate how all the SN horns come up with that stupid fall on the bender, for instance) or a change of preference for the factory MFX and EQ defaults for each sound. If you could crack the ROMbin and allow us to put our own 'Factory defaults' in, that would be amazing!

Quick question for Richard please - is there a possibility of a discount on the BK-9 version for those of us who purchased a full licence for the G70 Session Manager version?

Thanks

In fairness, Dennis, it seems that this is quite a different program from the G70 version (if it was that simple a port, it would be out already!)...

I don't think it is unreasonable to reward Richard with a full price purchase considering the formidable work he is doing!  Kiss

Let's make it worth his while...  Cool

yes, I agree Diki if it is a totally different app. In which case I have no issues with full price. I was not aware really it was radically different, now I am.

Dennis

PS: Not that I have a BK9 as yet, still umming and ahhing - just not sure on the keybed. None here to try, and in any case the stores are too far away.

Keybed is VERY acceptable, Dennis. Reminds me a bit of the better Yamaha or Korg WS keybeds. FAR crisper and more satisfying than the BK-5 or -3, easily the equal of a PA3X (without the aftertouch, though). Bit DX7-like, TBH. Light years ahead of any PSR, of course!

You know me, and how important I feel the action of a keyboard is... Of course, it's not as good as the G70's marvelous action, but it is easily as good as anything else, and better than most. If this is all that's holding you back, put your mind at ease.

The display is another thing completely, though. Without an iPad (you got one?) it is quite a pig to navigate on this thing. Nothing that's a deal breaker, as live you tend to use the Performances, and there's enough buttons, switches and footswitches to control it while playing. But editing is a total PITA. I am soon getting a new iPad Air, and I'll let you know how that goes.

Hi Richard, are you still working on the project or did you gave up because Roland doesn't tend to get in contact with you.

I am wondering why nobody of those people here in the forum, which have closer contacts to Roland, don't know anything how the things on development BK-9 are going on.

All of the forum's 'close contacts' were with those in Roland EU. Surely you have seen the news where most of them were let go, and production moved to China?

Hardly surprising that news and insider info dried up, honestly.

What kinds of fungi are you foraying for, Richard??!!  Shocked Kiss

Maybe it's time to leave the mushrooms alone and restart the project? LOL
